This review details my experience adding carrying capacity to my Framed LTD bike, which lacks rear rack eyelets. I opted for a clip-on rear rack system from Packrat, bypassing the need for frame modifications. This solution proved to be surprisingly versatile and effective, exceeding my initial expectations. The installation process was straightforward, utilizing readily available components and requiring no specialized tools. This upgrade significantly enhanced the bike's practicality for longer rides and carrying heavier loads. The Packrat system, coupled with Peak clamps (though slightly oversized, they worked perfectly), allowed for secure mounting. Beyond the rack itself, I explored and utilized additional features such as Moly bags for organization and unexpected compatibility with a larger trunk for increased cargo space. Further enhancements included a creatively mounted water bottle cage, adding to the bike's overall utility. This review covers the entire process, from installation and functionality to unexpected benefits and overall value.

Adding a Rear Rack to my Framed LTD
My Framed LTD bike lacked rear rack eyelets, a significant limitation for carrying gear. To overcome this, I purchased a clip-on rear rack system. This allows me to add carrying capacity without modifying the bike's frame.

The installation was relatively straightforward. The process involved attaching the rack securely to the bike's seat post using a simple bolt system. This was a much easier solution than drilling new holes into the bike frame.

Peak Clamps and Mounting
I used Peak clamps to secure the rack to the seat post. Although I opted for a 5/8 inch clamp, it proved to be slightly oversized. However, it held the rack securely and provided a stable mount.

The clamps provide a firm grip on the seat post, ensuring the rack remains securely fastened even during bumpy rides. It's crucial to choose the correct clamp size for a proper and safe fit.

Carrying Options and Accessories
I added two Moly bags to the rack for carrying tools and other small items. These bags are handy for keeping things organized and easily accessible. The Moly bags are durable and weather resistant, making them ideal for outdoor adventures.

Surprisingly, the rack also features compatibility with a larger trunk that clips on nicely. This was an unexpected bonus that significantly increases the cargo capacity of the bike. I highly recommend this feature for added functionality.

Water Bottle Cage Mount
An added feature is the ability to mount a water bottle cage using a zip tie and an existing bolt hole on the rack. This is a creative solution for incorporating a water bottle, which enhances functionality.

This simple and practical hack ensures easy access to hydration while riding. The zip tie method is secure and allows for flexibility in placement to suit individual preferences.

Rotor Upgrades
In addition to the rear rack installation, I upgraded the bike's rotors. The rear rotor was upgraded to a 200-millimeter size, improving braking performance.

The front rotor was also upgraded to a 203-millimeter size for enhanced braking power. These upgrades provide a significant improvement in braking capability, ensuring safety and control during rides.

Conclusion
The Packrat clip-on rear rack system is a cost-effective and convenient solution for adding carrying capacity to bikes without rear rack mounts. The ease of installation and secure mounting make it a valuable accessory.
While the slightly oversized Peak clamp was initially a concern, it proved to be quite functional. The added versatility of the Moly bags and the unexpected compatibility with a larger trunk elevates the overall utility of the system. Overall, this is a great addition to my Framed LTD.
